… you’re so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey!

Undeniably one of the most iconic cartoon characters known to man. Who would have thought that the jolly little rodent, sporting white gloves, red shorts, and yellow shoes would become a style icon? Well, at least his perfectly rounded ears have!

Mickey Mouse has invited some of the biggest names in fashion and showbiz to celebrate Mickey’s Magical Party at Disneyland Resort Paris by creating bespoke My Mickey Ears!

Geri Haliwell and Estelle have glammed up the famous ears their way whilst John Terry, Amir Kahn and Katie Hillier have created Mickey ears true to them. Charlotte Olympia, Corto Moltedo, Brix Smith-Start and Patsy Kensit have created their own take on the iconic figure meanwhile fashion family du jour, Pearl Lowe and Daisy Lowe, have sprinkled originality over their ears.

And on to the designers…

Luella, PPQ, Henry Holland and Giles Deacon (IT designers of our generation, in other words) have created ears oozing with sartorial panache and stylish goodness.

Giles Deacon said: “I love Disney and Mickey Mouse, so I’m honoured to be taking part in Mickey’s Magical Party at Disneyland Resort Paris. I’ve had great fun working with such an iconic piece of design and I’m looking forward to joining in the party. I’m a huge supporter of the work that Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity do, so I am pleased that the online auction proceeds go towards this“.

I can imagine the workshop now…

Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker from PPQ fashioning up edgy ears fit for the modern day fashionista… Luella packing on the embellishment onto her ears and Henry Holland adorning his pair in pom poms of assorted colours.

Spikes, studs, pom poms, gems and sequined flowers flying everywhere as they create hats with a childish innocence mixed with high fashion splendour.

We the sudden attraction to vintage Disney characters, I will keep my eyes peeled next season. Who knows? Maybe you’ll see the reinvention of Cinderella’s glass slipper or Donald Duck’s sailor hat.

My Micky Ears
Each pair of My Mickey Ears will be available for auction from 5th May – 5th June 2009. All proceeds will go to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity as part of Disney’s ongoing commitment to the hospital’s redevelopment.
